Daily YouTube – Bug Out and LRRP

[A new channel I've come across, MainePrepper, discusses bug out and how it's similar to the long range reconnaissance patrol (LRRP) that the military practices. He includes several useful ideas and recommendations that may prove useful. MainePrepper also lists many items that he would keep in his bags. You might also be interested in an online form you can use to create your own bug out bags, which can easily be downloaded to Excel... the best part is that it's free to Subscribers.]

One thing that seems everybody suggests having is a space blanket , I think they are next to worthless for much of anything , yes they are compact , but they are very noisy and next to impossible to refold the way you found it , they are not that warm , they tear very easily . My suggestion is get a nylon ripstop waterproof poncho , they are not as compact but will get you a lot farther down the road than a space blanket .

    • Agreed. I tried to take a nap with one once on a hammock… the nap didn’t happen. Get a bivvy to rely on and use the space blankets for something else.

I hear ya , the only thing I found them good for was putting under your tents footprint so it doesn’t get so dirty .

The fires that Im reading about remind me of how important an INCH bag is …..if your home is lost , everything in it is also lost with nothing to pass on to others after the dust settles .

Interesting way to look at a bug out. I’ve never been in the military so this thiking isn’t ingrained as it is for this guy.

I hear ya , people like that have an advantage because the gear and training is designed for the perpetual camp out . Once I got familiar with the PALS/MOLLE system , I almost wont get anything else . I even switched to the modern molle pouch for my old surplus GI canteen and cup getting rid of the old ALICE cover . Whoever designed that was a genius as far as I’m concerned .
