Interesting history note . During the siege of Stalingrad , The Russians mixed their grease and gun oil with an amount of diesel fuel . What this did is make the lubricant less susceptible to freezing …..The Germans didnt do this ……..as a result , weapon freezing and malfunction was less of an issue to Soviet soldiers than it was for their german counterparts .

TRue , the US had a POW camp just outside of Phoenix , a group of germans successfully escaped …..but turned themselves in after spending a week in the Arizona desert in the middle of summer . Too funny .
I’ve never been brave enough to try anything other than approved lubes but I can see the benefit of stocking non-traditional lubes if need be.
