Daily YouTube – Solar Lamps and Emergency Radios

The following video talks about two solar-powered products that may be of use, a hanging d.light solar lantern and Ambient weather radio. I don’t own either product but they get good reviews on Amazon.

I’ve got the Ambient Weather solar charged, hand crank radio in my back pack, the hand crank worked great and coming up will try out the solar charging portion.
I’ve checked out the d.light solar lamps. Amazon has them for sale for 15.95 each. I think its worth to have a couple on hand.
I have a goal zero lantern that was 39.95, that charges by solar, or by car battery …it also has a usb plug in for charging your cell phone (or possibly laptop, haven’t tried the laptop)I like the goal zero lantern, but its bigger and probably heavier than the d.light light ..so thats why I think having a few of the d.lights might be beneficial. Thanks for the heads up on the d.light lights.

I had the Eton scorpion , Its a good product . They came out with the Raptor which had the ability to charge your devices using the radios solar panels directly ……a long time complaint with the scorpion and most all other radios with solar panels is that the panel would only charge the radio and not devices . The raptor does not have a hand crank but so far , I’m very pleased with it . Some people had complaints about its programing instructions …….The ony issue I had with the instructions was that they dont tell you to exit a certain mode when you are done programing the raptor . The radio will not turn on if you dont do this . After that little bit of information was gained …….it works great !

    • I’ve never been a big fan of a “hand crank” anything. Maybe I’ll pay more attention to some of the products out there as I do like the idea.

Yeah , I hear ya , Cranking away for only a small amount of power time , then cranking all day to charge a device is kind of a crock . Makes you wonder why it took manufacturers so long to make a radio that charges your devices with the solar panel ? I guess if your trapped in a basement , the hand crank would serve you well .
