Survival Woman has a nice list and helpful hints of 40 Items to Barter in a Post-Collapse World. As much as I am not a big fan of stocking barter items–mostly because you should be focusing on stockpiling everything YOU will need to survive–it is useful to know what items may be most sought-after and, if able, to keep some of them on hand for just such an occasion.

I tend to agree with you about barter items: they’re nice to consider but it’s far better to have everything you may need first. And, besides, if it gets to the point that people are willing to barter, the chances are pretty good that each party involved will already have much of what they need, so keeping small items to barter like bic lighters probably won’t do a whole lot of good for you.
