The first official guest post writing contest will begin in a little more than a week! I’m excited and hope you are as well. Please begin submitting guest posts to me right away so we have posts to show the first Monday if possible. So, here’s how I think it’s all going to go down…
The contest will run for four weeks, from June 17 through July 12. Depending on submissions I intend on posting two to four competition posts a week but who knows what I’ll receive. Regardless, this isn’t a two or three month saga with dozens upon dozens of submissions, so your chances of winning a prize are greatly increased. 🙂 After the four weeks of guest posts we’ll have a week (probably five days) of user-submitted votes via poll.
If this first contest goes well I will look to do future contests, perhaps every other month or once a quarter, we’ll see.
Guest Post Guidelines
Here’s what’s expected… guest posts MUST:
- Be original content. Please ensure your work is your own. It’s just plain dishonest to do otherwise.
- Not originally posted elsewhere. Your work is NOT mine to keep, so you’re welcome to submit your post to any other website AFTER being first published here; I don’t mean after being submitted to me, I mean after being first PUBLISHED here.
- Minimum 500 words (750 and more preferred). I’m not looking for essays but a few paragraphs won’t cut it. And, believe it or not, 500 words isn’t much at all.
- Pictures are great. In fact, pictures are worth a thousand words, figuratively speaking, of course. All joking aside, pictures really do enhance a post so feel free to include a few.
- Author bios accepted. If you have a website or business to promote you’re welcome to include a one or two line author bio at the end (which isn’t part of the word count) as well as a single link to your website in the author bio.
- A few other things: there are no exclusions (anybody can post, from sponsors to editors… it’s all good. Last, you may submit more than one article if you like.
Any post found not meeting the above criteria will be immediately disqualified whether having been published or not. I will attempt to notify the writer via email but make no guarantees. Last, I reserve the right to not accept any guest post for any reason I deem necessary. I can’t see this happening often, if ever, but who knows what I’ll run into.
How to Submit a Post
Send your posts to “rethinksurvival (at) gmail.com” with the words “contest post” or “guest post” in the subject line. If not, the post may get lost in my inbox or spam folder. Know that I will tell you I’ve received your post, that it is or is not accepted, and when it will be published. If I’ve already received more posts than I can use for the current contest I reserve the right to carry a guest post over to a future contest.
I will accept a variety of formats, from a simple email to Word document, HTML, text file, or whatever. If I can’t read your file I’ll let you know. Again, pictures are more than welcome. If you email them to me separately then please tell me where they belong! For example, say something in your guest post like “insert dogs1.jpg picture here”. The more descriptive and obvious the better.
Voting and Choosing Prizes (it’s a little different)
Rather than me arbitrarily deciding who wins, this contest is for YOU. Like I said above, after the four weeks of guest posts there will be a week (let’s say five days) of voting. As such, all guest posts published during the contest will be listed in order of appearance and everyone will get to vote for their favorite post one time. It’s the top three vote-getters who are the winners. I’ll vote in the event of a tie. As with anything else, be honest, don’t do anything shady to get votes, etc. Winners will be announced a day or two after voting is over.
Prize winning will be a little different too. Instead of me telling you what you win, you get to choose! That is, the first place winner will get to choose their prizes first (choice of any two), then the second place chooses two of the remaining three prizes, while the third place winner will get the last prize… whatever that turns out to be. Now, in order to make that happen I need winners to be responsive to my emails. I’ll try two or three times to contact winners but I reserve the right to skip any unresponsive winners I haven’t heard from and move on in fairness to others.
Fortunately, we have some very gracious sponsors who are willing to sponsor this fun contest. Please visit their sites and review the products being donating as they are certainly good people doing good things for our community. Here’s the prizes…
|CampingSurvival.com is donating an Exotac nanoSTRIKER XL Ferrocerium Fire Starter in Olive Drab. The description says “We created an evolutionary derivative of the original nanoSTRIKER with a larger rod and striker handle. It utilizes the same innovative design as the original, but with just enough extra size and heft to improve its ease of use without making it too big or bulky for key chain carry. The striker handle is 46% bigger, making it easier to grip. The XL version also sports a 33% larger ferrocerium rod, which improves the durability and lifespan of the rod even beyond that of the original nanoSTIKERs. Slowly scrape shavings off the rod into a small pile. Use these shavings on top of your tinder bundle for even better sparks! Use the nanoSTRIKER? to light gas stoves, alcohol stoves, fuel tablets, BBQ grills, etc.”|
