A few weeks ago, I posted about why you probably wouldn’t die during a winter power outage, but I neglected a few important additions that you’ll find in the video below. While The Patriot Nurse talks about how to reduce heat loss like I did as well as portable space heaters and whatnot, she also discusses thermal insulated blackout curtains (something I need to look into), a USGI Woobie blanket and USGI wool blanket, the necessity of building a “warm” room, safety tips when using off-grid heating (including avoiding burst water pipes), and plenty more. It’s well worth the watch if for nothing else than as a continuing reminder of just how much you can do to stay warm when the power goes out. Enjoy!

I know her, she seemed happier and more bubbly than usual. Great video really, but one thing many people are unaware of is that you can create a sleeping chamber or box from lightweight material such as foam panels and cover it with some mylar or insulating material.
You create a rectangular box except one end is shorter or higher so your head can stick out. It works like a tent to keep you warm and you can lay down a pad or sleeping bag and use blankets inside or to throw over it as needed.
