Although I’m a huge fan of using your smartphone for preparedness, I realize there’s a lot more you can do to communicate when SHTF. But as he talks about in the video below, start with the basics. That means you should know how to use your phone to communicate. Understand that text messages are more likely to go through that phone calls. Write down important phone numbers.

Interestingly, he also says that some newer phones have a feature where they will (or can?) use satellites when sending text messages. This is something I didn’t know about, so I’ll have to look into it more. There’s more to consider, including FRS, GMRS, and HAM radios, but this is where to start…
