Helene Prepping Takeaways

This video is a few months old now, talking about Hurricane Helene that struck in September 2024. Although the entire video is worthwhile to watch, especially if you live in a hurricane prone area and because he discusses his experience, you can skip to about the 15:00 mark to get to the heart of the video and the lists of stuff we all know and love to analyze.

For what it’s worth, this guy isn’t a prepper, but I think he’s beginning to come around to the idea, lol. He discusses firearms, lists (for medications, medical conditions, account numbers, etc.), first aid books, writing utensils, fire extinguishers, boots and fishing waiters, battery-powered radio, buckets, potable water, ways to wash dishes, paper plates and bowls, and more. It’s almost like he’s pitching my books for me.

The video continues with things he wished he’d known, but I’ll let you watch that part. Perhaps the most interesting takeaway, I thought, was his view on how “community is everything,” which contradicts much of my preparedness-related beliefs of “every man for himself.” But as I age I’m beginning to agree with him. What do you think? Have you survived a similar situation? Did he miss anything?
