I happened upon the following video and was immediately intrigued. After all, I’ve been searching for a way to keep cool should we lose grid power for any length of time, and about the best I’ve come up with is to run fans and a window A/C from a small off-grid system I recently purchased. The problem is that I may have to sacrifice also being able to run refrigerators and whatnot, too, at least until I can afford more server rack batteries and large solar panels (more to come on those later).
When I heard that I might be able to build a geo thermal system for less than a window a/c unit could cost me, my ears perked up. And now I’m seriously thinking about it, because we’re going to build a greenhouse this fall and I figure that would be a good test run.
The only problem is that the video I initially watched doesn’t actually show how to build the system. Ugh. But then I searched his YouTube channel and found another video that discuss this topic in more detail, so this is a two for one post. 🙂 Even better, the Simple Tek YouTube channel has a ton of interesting content on solar, heating, cooling, greenhouses, and more. I suggest you spend some time watching his content.
