I’ve been hearing that sometimes people are having difficulty getting their prescription medications, including antibiotics like amoxicillin, from local pharmacies for one reason or another.
I’ve been thinking about this for a while now. The thing is that most preppers only focus on antibiotics as the necessary medications to get your hands on during an emergency, but there are easily hundreds of other medications that folks need or else life gets real bad very quickly. Often, these are daily medications for chronic conditions.
The question is: What can you do, rather than desperately calling every last pharmacy in the area, if your necessary medications are in short supply all of a sudden? How about an online pharmacy? I believe I heard it mentioned again briefly in The Poplar Report, specifically, this video at about the 7:15 mark…
I can’t say that I’ve ever used an online pharmacy yet, though I have used telehealth a few times to get medications and it worked wonderfully. That said, it would be wise for you to search for a trusted online pharmacy now, before the need arises, and setup an account so there’s no concern later on.
You might also ask your doctor or a pharmacist if they have any recommendations as I’m sure all online pharmacies are not equal in customer service, price, or shipping.
I will mention that I got an email recently from Amazon about their online pharmacy, so I looked into to briefly. Some positives include:
- Pharmacist available 24/7
- Delivery straight to your door
- Automatic deliveries (useful for refills)
- Accepted by most insurance
- And more benefits
Amazon also offers a service called RxPass, which is a way to get dozens of common medications for a low price, but you have to be a Prime member. Apparently, they don’t accept Medicare or Medicaid yet. You’ll have to look into it more if you’re interested.
And I’m not saying that Amazon’s pharmacy is the way to go, but I do purchase quite a bit from Amazon with very little to complain about. Their prices are usually great, deliveries are fast, and the times when I need customer service help for a return, for example, has always been easy.
Anyway, the point is that if you’re concerned about your medications not being filled due to local shortages or whatever–and even if you’re not–do some digging into online pharmacies because I’m sure they’ll be the wave of the future whether you like it or not. And you’ll surely be one step ahead of those who don’t know about online pharmacies.
