Got Pets? Read The Ultimate Guide to Survival Prepping for Pets

As much as I like to believe I do a good job when writing my books, the first book I’d ever written was about preparedness for pets. It was a short book, but I was proud of it. I swore it was going to sell well and that I would probably be retired about three months after launch.

The results?

It didn’t sell at all, lol.

I was surprised because almost everyone has pets, but apparently even preppers don’t care to read a book about pet preparedness. That’s a shame because there’s a lot you can do to help your pets survive a disaster as this Ultimate Guide to Survival Prepping for Pets details.

I’ll be honest, it’s a lengthy yet worthwhile read. It’s so detailed, in fact, that there’s a part two to the article.

Although the article talks about many of the same topics I did when I wrote my pet preparedness book (which is no longer for sale, by the way), including the importance of identification, medical and legal documentation, and evacuation concerns, they also discuss how different disasters (e.g., hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, home fires, etc.) impact your pet’s needs as well as how to prepare for unusual pets, like birds and reptiles.

The article also discusses topics I hadn’t even considered when I wrote my book on the same topic, such as sheltering-in-place, first aid (I think I briefly mentioned it during my discussion about evacuations), extreme weather conditions, mental and emotional stress, older pets and disabled pets, post-disaster assessment, and a lot more. I was pleasantly surprised.

I would also take the time to read their ten mistakes near the end of part two, a few of which I hadn’t considered.

If you’re short on time, skip to the checklist at the end of part two and you’ll get most of what you need out of the guide, but if you have any interest in keeping your pets safe when disaster strikes, I encourage you to read the entire article.

While I would typically be suspicious (in that the article is going to suck) of a website titled Movie TV Tech Geeks writing such a lengthy article about pet preparedness, I commend them on their effort whatever their reason, though I suspect it has something to do with the nearly two-hour YouTube video at the end of the article, which I only glanced. The article is solid, though.

I hope you take the time to prepare your pets because they are nearly as dependent as children are on you for their survival. Treat them as such.
