I continue to try and educate myself about nuclear weapons and the aftermath of such an event. It’s something that I’ve paid little attention to over the decades as, to be honest, I never thought it would be a likely disaster scenario given the M.A.D. doctrine. And even if it were, I wouldn’t want to be around to survive, anyway.
But after watching this video, I’m beginning to wonder if my assumptions about survivability were misplaced. Still, this considers what might happen if one, relatively small nuclear weapon were to strike. Odds are good that, if you live anywhere near a primary target (a major city, even in the suburbs, or military target), then the area would be hit with several, much larger weapons. This would reduce your odds of survival drastically.
Still, knowledge is power. And whether you agree with the conclusions in the video or not, I learned a few things, like just how quickly radiation dissipates after a strike. I’d always believed that about two weeks was the avoidance target, but it seems that even 48 hours results in only 1/100 the initial dosage. So, that’s good news. 🙂 There’s more to know and more to be positive about, if there is anything positive to look forward to after being nuked. Enjoy!
