Beeswax Candle Warmth Hack

It’s been horribly cold here of late, and it’s not even winter yet. Ugh. I am so thankful that we have a home, central heat, suitable clothing for outdoors, a woodstove, and so much more that make life tolerable, even comfortable when the weather sucks.

But here’s a survival hack that I hadn’t thought about. Truth be told, I’m not sure I would ever try it for fear that I fall asleep and my unmentionables get lit on fire, but I figured I would pass it along regardless. Enjoy!

He says in the pinned comment: “FYI, I didn’t mention this in the video but pure beeswax burns hotter and clean. I wouldn’t recommend that you use soy or paraffin wax Candles for this since they’re toxic. Use Only 100% pure Beeswax candles.”

An interesting video but having an open flame inside a plastic poncho is sketchy at the least and using two candles to give 8 hours duration sounds like he expects to sleep the night which you wouldn’t want to do without a protective cage around the flame. The use of a cheap lighter is good in the short term but when the gas runs out you’re in trouble, I prefer the cheap BBQ lighters that use a piezio spark so that when the gas runs out you can still light a camping stove that has its own gas without burning your fingers trying to get close with a spark. Where we live in Australia, beeswax candles of any sort would have to be ordered over the ‘net and are relatively expensive. With the amount of fuel he has surrounding him he might be better off with a tin can hobo stove and a collection of small sticks to burn in it, also just sealing the poncho around himself would raise the temperature noticeably by just excluding the cold air from the small space.

    1. Agreed. I’m definitely falling asleep and waking up to my pants on fire!
