How Long Will a Window AC Run on a Single Battery?

This guy has a simple setup: a 12-volt, 200 Ah battery and a Dewalt inverter. That’s it. But he wondered how long it would continuously run a 5000 BTU window unit. The answer: a bit longer than five hours, which can be read as … “That’s not too bad all things considered” or … “Are you kidding me? What do I do for the other nineteen hours of the day?” I would be in the latter camp.

In fairness, he didn’t attempt to charge the battery at all during use, which would’ve made a huge difference in runtime throughout the day. And, I believe he should’ve tested in a real-world situation, a place indoors where the window unit has a chance to shut off. But it’s always good to get a idea of extreme circumstances, so you know what to expect.
