I Was Walking Through Walmart the Other Day, Saw This, and *Almost* Had Tears of Joy…

I, perhaps like you, have a love/hate relationship with Walmart. It’s darn hard to stay out of the place because everything is so darn cheap… I meant, inexpensive. 😉 At the same time I usually try to avoid shopping there for a variety of reasons but since we’ve recently moved and I can easily find my local Walmart, it’s become an easy place to shop again… ugh.

Regardless, I was walking through Walmart the other day and saw this shelf of freeze-dried foods:

Not quite what you were expecting? Well, I can say that I’ve been in my fair share of Walmart stores and have never see anything that *almost* brought tears to my eyes… in a good way, that is 😉

They had all sorts of freeze-dried foods there, including things that are often hard to get without purchasing them online, such as butter, eggs, various fruits (apples, bananas, berries), assorted veggies, and more!

Certainly, Walmart is merely “jumping on the bandwagon” as it were but it is nice to see the “big guys” offering something I’m actually interested in purchasing. But, since we’re mostly broke after moving 2000 miles… these purchases will have to wait quite a while.

My walmart does not have the freeze dried section but they do have lots of cheap non perishable food. I decided to do an article on this and I guess it made sense to a lot of people since it got over 30,000 views:

Here is the latest about buying food and supplies on ebay:

No I am not selling anything. Just passing it along.

Bandwagon or not , glad you brought this to our attention . If people start grabbing up these things because of posts like this , they will see a clear market and expand on what they started …….win-win for both the store and us .

    1. …AND people will be more prepared whether they know it or not. 🙂

Anyone know if they hve this in any stores in east Tennesse? I know out local Sam’s club carries a variety of these product.

    1. You could try Walmart’s website and check the “Store Availability” option. Some others have suggested you can just “ship to store” also. Hope that helps!

They sell these bulk items in the Eugene, OR store.

  5. I have worked for walmart for a while. Your store is either a test store to see how well it sells before they put it in more areas. Or its just a regional thing. Ive worked in or 60 stores and the only one Ive ever seen carry this stuff is Rockhill South Carolina

Rock Hill! Which Wal-Mart? Do you have group of prepper. friends. Would love to get connected with a few folks Thanks

Have not seen any of this in any of about 30 wallyworlds i have been in here in fla, and one would think that with all the hurricanes we get they would put this stuff in the stores. Guess that is what happens when yankees run things, NO COMMON SENSE!

The people who run Walmart are not “Yankees”. They are bumpkin hicks from Arkansas, the furthest thing you can get from a sophisticated NYC denizen. Best recheck your venacular.

walmart and cosko both sell freeze dried and has free ship to store on any purchase… same with sams…. iv not seen them tho in the store… yet…

  8. The Walmarts and grocery stores around here have carried that for two years now. I found that I can get a better quality freeze dried food that has non-GMO, organics, and gluten free items for discount and free through Thrive Life. http://www.howtolivea.thrivelife.com Never pay full price when you can get it free.

  9. The Wal mart website has the stuff at great prices and offers free shipping with a minimum order.

    1. Good to know… never bothered to look!

    2. Veronica

Thanks I just checked it out.I don’t know why I didn’t think to look on their website. LOL

Why not use lay away? I don’t know what Walmart’ time limit is for holding something on layaway. If you make regular payments layaway might be an option before the items “disappear” because it was just a “test run”

    1. Well, that is an option but similar to using a credit card I can’t pay off… except for the interest fees. I prefer to be able to pay off my purchases (or at least my credit card) each month. Regardless, that is potential strategy if things get dicey.

  11. I have been keeping my eye on a few Walmarts in my area to see if they are carrying those items yet. I will be over the moon when they do!

  12. Veronica

WOW I wish our Walmart offered that.

where in the store was this stuff? I have never seem it

    1. In our Walmart it was near the back of the store but in front of the sporting goods, bicycles, camping gear. It was just a small shelf and easy to miss… I know I’ve probably walked by it a few times before I noticed.
