I’m afraid that Berkey filters might be on their way out. I wrote about my woes in the past (mostly of my own doing) and mentioned the Culligan filters I’ve switched to for preparedness.
Below is a video discussing a countertop option (the AquaTru Carafe), something I hadn’t really considered for off-grid preparedness purposes. That said, it you have a small power setup, then it might be worth considering. He also discusses the Culligan ZeroWater pitcher that’s gravity-fed, and possibly easier to use than even the Culligan filters I prefer, because everything is self-contained.
Also of interest, apparently the Berkey filtes we’re accustomed to buying these days is a spin-off of the original British Berkefeld models, which are still available for purchase and still very good for emergency water filtration, at least according to the “Water Filter Guru” in the video below.
