Solar Lights for SHTF

I used to not be a fan of solar powered equipment, like solar crank lights or radios, but I’m beginning to change my mind recently, especially when for off-grid or SHTF purposes. I just purchased some similar solar lights for my chicken coop, but I can’t speak to their effectiveness just yet. If interested, these outdoor solar lights are very similar to what’s discussed in the video, and about the same price for a pack of two…

He doesn’t say in the video how many hours the solar lights stay on. Will they last the entire night on dim in the high beam motion detection mode?

I have followed Tim for a long time. His knife reviews are spot on and I tend to agree with his assessments and I guess we may have similar tastes, but his reviews are always good.

In regards to solar lights, like anything that uses a battery, it might need to be replaced someday, but we can prepare by having extra batteries and bulbs or LED’s. But LEDs are usually rated for 10, 000 hours of use and I’d say rechargeable items tend to last a long time as well.

Some people have even tapped into solar devices to charge batteries or other items. By the time anything stops working, you can look back and appreciate the lack of time one would have to have spent changing disposable batteries or even rechargeable ones. They’re ready to go and self-contained units that are very convenient and easy to use. And the motion detection feature saves battery power plus it has that element of surprise to intruders or trespassers.

I have several solar calculators and those devices will last for years. The nice thing is that they use the room light and it doesn’t have to be super bright for them to function.

One hurricane season, my brother brought out on of his solar, hand crank radios (We both had acquired several units) and it really helped prevent total boredom when we lost power. It provided us with both news updates, information and music. Having a few radios is very important and comforting.
