I live in Kansas City, so I’m familiar with the tornado risks involved of living in the Midwest. Although we’ve had some times where we needed to take shelter, we’ve thankfully never had a twister touch down around our home. I could only imagine how scary and devastating that would truly be.
Interestingly, it seems that “tornado alley,” which was traditionally centered over the Great Plains (Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas to an extent), is moving southeast to states like Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia.
Worse, these storms are moving much faster, occur at any time of the day, and could happen throughout the year. Add in the fact that tornadoes are occurring in more populated areas east of the Mississippi river, and this shift is alarming. So, if you live in these areas, pay attention!
And get yourself a NOAA weather radio, add alert apps to your smartphone, and watch the local news if there are severe weather events.
