The Ultimate Family Go Bag

While I have my own ideas of what should go in a bug out bag, I’m surprised to see just how similar our thinking is when it comes to creating a bug out bag for “normal” people, that is, family and particularly young children. The fact that he’s opted to select bright colors for the crucial items (like knives) as well as included lanyards on whistles and knives and other important gear is another great idea. Honestly, I’d say I’ve got a few things to add to my own bags, like the $8 cell phone that runs on AA batteries and the pull start fire-starter which looks like a no-brainer to me.

After seeing the video image above I must comment. I don’t care for some of those former military special forces guys on YouTube and I’m not going to explain in great detail or mention any names. There are some good ones who actually go out, go hiking and such and they understand we can’t all afford training. Some of those guys are living like they’re civilian commandos…. they have tons of high priced gear and trucks loaded like civil war is just around the corner. It all looks impressive and sounds cool, but the reality is that most of us may not have all the recommended gear and a 4 wheel drive with multiple rifles and pistols, a CB radio, Baofeng hand held radios, and so on. They make a living off what they have learned, promoting their training and products and that’s okay, but it doesn’t help the rest of us who can’t afford all the training and gear and besides as the son of a former Marine, they’re not specifically trained for end of the world scenarios. You need to look elsewhere for information and consider other perspectives on surviving various scenarios.

I use many of the same items! I have the SOL Escape Bivvies in each Get Home Bag. I use an SOL All Weather Blanket instead of a tarp. Also, the multitool must have a saw. Good video! I use to watch Yeager years ago.
