Practical Bug Out Bag

His focus is on developing a “practical” bug out bag for when he feels you’re most vulnerable or when things are most likely to happen: while you’re sleeping… precisely when you may not have time to “get ready” and gear up.

This isn’t what most people would consider a typical bug out bag. Most of the content included are EDC gear he puts on each day as well as clothing for when he goes to the gym and a few spares like extra glasses and whatnot. The important part about this idea is that it includes everything he needs to just get out of the house and be able to function.

Beyond that, his system is tiered, that is, he includes extra gear in his vehicles and elsewhere to further supplement this bag. I prefer a tiered approach a recommend you do so as well. Skip to the 1:30 mark to get past the initial intro or the 4:20 mark to get to the bag contents…

Forgive me, but I have a hard time calling that a “Bug Out” bag. Seems to me like a gym bag with an EDC organizer inside. I am NOT criticizing his system or plans! Everyone knows their own situation best. He may have arrangements or caches set up that will provide the major necessities: water, food and shelter. (He has security/protection covered with his pistol, although 1 reload is packing light to me). I view “Bug Out” as the stuff one would need to survive the first 72 hours of a crisis or disaster. If he can get by with this stuff, GREAT! I am sure he is a more accomplished survivalist that I am. Now, if he were to add just a few items: All Weather Blanket (for shelter), SOL Thermal Bivvy, Frontier or Sawyer Water Filter, a Nalgene water bottle, a few DATREX Food Bars, Schrade SCHF1 or SCHF9 Survival Knife and some more ammo, that would meet my interpretation of “Bug Out Bag”. But, again, I am in NO position to judge his set up. Actually, I enjoy his videos very much! He convinced me to buy a Schrade Survival Knife.

    1. Good additions, Irish-7. Though, I think he mentioned that this bag was just to get him out of the house in the middle of the night where he could get to other gear if I remember right. His thinking was something like “get clothed, get functional (such as an extra pair of glasses), equip with some gear (his EDC stuff), and be protected” then deal with everything else later. 🙂

Yeah, I figured he must have more elaborate gear set up somewhere. I must have walked away from the video when he explained that part. I keep considerable survival gear in my vehicle. We also have equipment and food staged near an exit of our home. All we really have to do is run out! If we were sleeping when the crisis or emergency takes place, we’d just need to get dressed.

  2. I tried to watch the video twice but got a pop-up message that access was restricted. What’s up with that ?

    1. I don’t know. It’s works fine for me. Try watching directly on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypu4f-jtJgI
